PREFACE

Demographic Yearbook of Russia has been published since 1994.

This issue of the Yearbook covers basic statistical indicators showing changes in the population size and main demographic trends in Russian Federation in 2019-2020 in comparison with a number of previous years.

Nine sections of the handbook contain data related to population, its age-sex composition, general population replacement indices, marriage and divorce data, fertility, mortality by age, sex and causes of death and data on migration. Basic demographic indicators for Russia are presented in comparison with some other countries.

In the course of preparation of this yearbook results of population censuses data, annual current population estimates and the Federal statistical records were used, as well as data supplied by the Ministry of the Interior of the Russian Federation.

Each section starts with short explanatory notes concerning data sources and methods by which main indices have been calculated.

Series are published for the entire Russian Federation for a long time span while the data with breakdown by Federal Districts, republics, territories (kray), regions (oblast), cities of Federal subordination, autonomous region (oblast) and autonomous areas (okrug) are mainly for 2019-2020.

Statistical information by regions is provided in a separate electronic application.

Since 2014 "Demographic Yearbook of Russia" is being published only in electronic form under "Publications" section on the official web site of Rosstat (https://rosstat.gov.ru).
