The University Information System RUSSIA (UIS RUSSIA) is a mutual project of Research Computing Center and Economic Faculty at Lomonosov Moscow State University. Since 2000 the system has been working as a digital library for research and education, primarily in the fields of economic and social sciences to meet the growing interest and challenges of the Russian universities and academia.
Starting from 2003 the development team concentrates on statistical databases to build an infrastructure for educational courses, to assist broad Russian social and economic studies from regional to local and down to household level. Today profound knowledge of statistical data and ability to implement advanced modern methods of applied analysis are expected from successful university graduates and are in high demand among new specialists, particularly in economics, public administration and related areas.
To meet this demand the team maintains and regularly updates the set of databases - “Regions of Russia” segments on the annual and monthly basis, “Municipalities”, “Children of Russia”, “Financial Data”. The data bases cover indicators from publications of the Russian Federal Statistic Service (Rosstat). Various aggregate tables can be composed for dynamic analysis. Each table provides references to the Rosstat data collection methodology, statistical forms and filling instructions.
Visualization options include business graphics tools and cartography. The latter one helps to vividly illustrate social, economic, ecological typology of the Russian regions.
Advanced analytical tools are available to enhance educational and research value of the system. Users can easily perform calculations of correlation factors, linear regression, extrapolation, secondary variables for static and time series, adjust criterion selection without any third party utilities. These tools can be adapted to on-line classes in statistics and quantitative methods of data analysis.
Statistical databases are complimented by the “Analytical publications” module with the content covering economic development and vast social domains. Currently up to one million documents from 30+ collections are integrated together. The Collection provides a wide retrospective coverage and is regularly updated. Contents include reports from the Russian Federal Statistic Service, Ministries of Economic Development and other federal agencies, think tanks reports, analytical journals and universities publications. All of these are obtained from original official information owners and/or producers under legal agreements.
Enhanced database functionality includes the instruments to cross search and retrieve statistics and analytical publications, exploiting indicators-based system of subject headings and regional geographic names.
In 2018 the RF Geographic knowledge base was implemented. It is composed as based on official edition of RF National Geographic Names Catalog.
In 2016 after an international audit the UIS RUSSIA was awarded a Trusted Digital Repository status.
